![]() I would guess the former situation, where the grey then submits the name to the AD, who submits it to Rolex. That said, would Rolex accept warranty work for an anonymously registered watch? I assume they would as long as the service is processed through the AD who sold it? In searching around I saw a post where someone indicated that the AD might put "xxxx" on the name to keep the buyer anonymous at their request. I could see how the AD might submit the warranty card once the person who buys from the grey dealer gives his name, but how would the grey dealer be able to submit the warranty card? Rolex didn’t sell those watches to the dealer direct. The easiest way, watches show up with blank warranty cards. That doesn’t prevent that person from getting watches elsewhere. They can ask a certain dealer not to sell to someone that has flipped a watch. ADs not only absolutely sell to grays, they don’t research customers at all, and Rolex doesn’t really have a way to ban a flipper. This is both uneducated and a fabrication. The brand new with plastic still on came directly to the grey dealer from an AD. The watches you see on grey sights that are unworn but have been sized and have the plastic removed come from individual flippers. Also keep in mind that very few on here ever report that the AD they just purchased a hard to get piece from allowed them to keep the plastic on. You are ignoring that they have warranty cards dated in march, 2019. They have acquired pieces in previous years and time the market in a professional manner with odds which pieces will increase exponentially vs others. Rolex AD's do not provide watches to Grey Dealers. Once they own it nobody can tell them what they can or can't do or whom to sell it to. The grey market are flippers on the business level. The reason it takes so long for watches is because the AD wants to see who they are selling to. No way AD"s provide ROLEX's to grey dealers. It’s a situation where it all comes down to relationships. Or there are grey dealers who also have a good enough relationship with their AD that said ADs will sell to them with blank warranty cards for the grey dealer to fill in/submit and the two have an understanding that everyone keeps their mouths shut. ![]() Is this the case, or is there another means by which they can fool the system? The only thing I can think may happen is that the grey market buyer pays cash and registers the watch under a fake name. The salesperson I talked to told me that Rolex has called them directly and told them not to sell any more sports models to a customer who did that recently. I am also of the understanding that Rolex will ask dealers not to sell to a particular person if they are flagged for watch-flipping behavior. When I bought my GMT II, I had to register my watch which as I understand is information that goes to Rolex. I am curious about how grey dealers go about getting their watches. ![]()
